Back from the Arctic! [6th Sep 08]
|
Well, Clark and I just got back from completing our crossing of Victoria Island in the Canadian Arctic! What an epic adventure that turned out to be! Add this years 70 days to the 58 days we were out there in 2005, and you get, what, 128 days to cross the 1000km wide island. Snow, ice, polear bears, wolves, mud, rapids, tundra... we got it all. It's good to be home! More soon. For now, go to www.1000HourDay.com for all the pics and details etc....READ MORE >> |

Canon EOS Sponsorship and Ambassadorship! [7th Mar 08]
|
My photography took an enormous leap forward this week with the amazing news that Canon have agreed to sponsor me with approximately $15,000 worth of camera gear including the Canon EOS-1D Mark III digital SLR body, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens (IS = Internally Stabilised), EF16-35mm f/2.8L lens, an amazing wireless flash (580EXII Speedlite), and a EF1.4x Extender which will, combined with the camera's 1.3x conversion factor, turn the 400mm lens into a whopping 728mm telescope - allowing m...READ MORE >> |
Discovery Channel Canada [7th Mar 08]

My powerful, impressive stride - hauling a PAC2 across the low-tide rock platform at Avalon - certainly looked the part. Right up until my epic Scarpa boots tangled in the PAC2s cargo/bag netting just behind me, snatching my leg backward right when I needed it most. I fell flat on my face, those tiny turban-shaped shells covering the rocks did what they do best, and inserted themselves into the palms of my hands. The weary Discovery Channel cameraman suddenly tapped into a hidden glut of energy ...READ MORE >> |
Week in Review [7th Mar 08]
|
Today got off to a great start as I eavesdropped on Clark answering a phone call while I was in the shower. All I could hear was "Oh wow!".... "Thanks so much!"... "That's great!" I cut my shower short to hear the news. Clark beamed. "We just got given $100 from Bruce - a chappie from the Central Coast – he read the piece in the paper!" Fantastic! Thanks Bruce!
We also have some other fantastic news on the financial side: You might remember a few updates ago we mentioned these awesome little ...READ MORE >> |
2-Day PAC Test Results [8th Feb 08]
|
Well, as promised at the end of the last update, earlier this week Clark and I took our PAC2 deep into the Blue Mountains, loaded it up with 150kgs of non-essential camping gear (like an eski) as well as excessive amounts of water (in 2 large 35 litre drums) and gave the cart hell for a few days.
We asked our good old mate Tom Hayllar (who has walked up, down, across and around Australia) where would be the best place to go, and he directed us to an old unused 4WD track out past Newnes, foll...READ MORE >> |
So much to tell! [8th Feb 08]

Shivering inside giant -38deg C freezers, finishing and testing the first PAC, opening exciting deliveries, doing radio interviews, having ultrasounds, and staying up all night calling potential sponsors from all around the globe - this last week has been action-packed!
The excitement started when our satellite email software sponsor GMN told us about these new little ASUS Eee PCs that just came out. They are a tiny little laptop with a 7 inch screen, wireless enabled, inbuilt webcam and mic...READ MORE >> |
Launch of Photography Site [27th Jan 08]
|
My two main passions - Photography and Adventure – have been growing hand in hand over the last few years, with my ChrisBray.net site becoming an interesting merger of both. However, it has got to the point where my old website just wasn't big enough for either of them to continue growing into the careers they are both promising – so as of a few minutes ago, I've launched an entirely new version of www.ChrisBray.net – clearly separated between ...READ MORE >> |
Unexpected Hurdle [14th Jan 08]

As some of you must know, our legendary bush pilot 'Willie' Laserich who picked us up from the 2005 expedition end point has passed away recently. This news came as a blow to us as we have become good friends with Willie since our meeting on Victoria Island in 2005 - he was definitely one of those 'characters of the arctic' you hear about.
Unfortunately for us, Willie was also the only man in his company that was able to do 'off runway' landings, meaning we no longer have someone at Adlair a...READ MORE >> |
